fave generation: I'm currently watching gen 3 and it's alright. From what I've read it seems most Skins fans hate this generation but it still has a good episode here and there. For some reason I don't think the characters mesh that well together and aren't believable as a group of friends.
My fave generation will probably be generation 2, even though I think it ended pretty piss poor.
Gen 1 was okay but I think it's overrated. I probably didn't like it so much because I didn't really like Sid or Cassie.

fave/least fave characters:
I started out really loving Effy but I feel like her character went downhill for me in season 4. Didn't like her episodes that much and it was all kind of bizarre and escalated so quickly (that murderous therapist wtf) although admittedly it made sense for Effy to have some sort of manic disorder. But yeah she's no longer on my fav list.
Naomi & Emily - I'm just lumping together because alone neither of them would be that remarkable, but their relationship with the highlight of season 2 and they had some of the best, most effective scenes. Also Emily is hot as. Love her gravelly voice.
Cook - I hated him until like the second half of season 4, now I kinda love him. He ended up being kind of a wise motherfucker.
Tony - I loved pre-bus Tony. I think he made season 1 great. Post-bus Tony was eh, and I think season 2 suffered from the lack of psycho!Tony.
Mini - I think she'll be my fav from gen 3. It's kind of a typical character (the queen bitch but has self-esteem issues etc) but I always eat this type of thing up. Plus, I love the actresses accent. SCOTTISH? Yes please.
Okay I hated JJ, I wanted to slit my throat multiple times watching his episodes. I guess he's supposed to be the sympathetic loser, but I don't think it was sold well. He seemed annoying and self-pitying, and I honestly don't know why anyone would even be his friend. Maybe I have something against these types of characters because he was kinda like Sid, and I hated Sid too. Just boring and a whiny little.
Nick - I hate this guy so far even though I haven't seen much besides him being a manwhore, pegging him for my least fav of gen 3.
Cassie - I don't know why Cassie is so loved in the Skins fandom, always found her to be kind of rude and annoying, yet she always got a pass apparently because of her eating disorder. I do like her "oh,wow" line though.

First half of Gen 3 > Gen 1 == Gen 2 Generation 1 is the only generation I've fully finished. I never finished Gen 2 because I didn't want to see Freddie die and I got bored of it. I never finished Gen 3 because... well I'm assuming you didn't finish it yet so I won't spoil it for you. I haven't watched skins in years so I don't remember how each character was but I remember liking Frankie, or at least being intrigued by her. I thought it was cool how in the first season the show she was androgynous but she was still straight. It was a nice message that how you look doesn't define your sexuality. But she was a total brat in the very last episode of season 1 and in season 2 she was just... I don't even want to talk about it. The show completely fucked her up in the second season. I also liked Mini (mostly because she's hot). I wanted her and Frankie to get together sooooooo badly. I hated how the show hinted at her being gay and then just dropped it in the next season. WHY DID YOU GET MY HOPES UP LIKE THAT? I hated Sid and JJ too. I wanted them to end up with no one and felt no pity for them when things didn't go their. They were extremely unattractive, boring, bitter, and didn't even TRY to make themselves look better or have a better personality, yet they sad they couldn't pull hot girls? They were lucky if any female even TALKED to them. They have classic nice guy syndrome. Even if you don't personally like her you have to admit that. You just wanted to save her so badly but she was a fictional character so you couldn't. She's iconic. I kinda despised the whole thing at first because it was so over the top :cries:But I think it lead to some memorable scenes in the finale so I can't hate. I've started season 6 now. Frankie's character doesn't even make sense now. I can understand her gaining confidence between s5-s6 but seems they changed her entire identity. Which is okay to happen but it needs to be developed/explained, not something you do off-screen. And she seems to be absolutely fine having sex now which is weird considering she's supposed to be a sexual abuse victim and that part of her was never resolved, aka literally the last part of season 5 she almost FALLS TO HER DEATH because Matty tried to have sex with her. but Frankie is steaming hot now and i didn't even know she was hiding that kind of body under her clothes jesus have mercy  and fff I was so here for Mini/Frankie but yeah it seems the whole bi-curiosity thing has been dropped which is lame. Looks like they really only threw Alex in late to have a gay character for this gen (possibly because they dropped any gay storyline between mini/frankie). No doubt Effy made Skins and is the most iconic character and that's a nice analysis of her character, the development makes sense. But I did like Effy a lot more in gen 1 and the first half of gen 2. The best times were when Effy was going around with Pandora (btw their friendship was the cutest thing ever) partying and just fucking with people. When she started getting serious with Freddie I think her character became a lot less interesting for me, and it became the typical "i'm scared of intimacy" type deal, albeit with a lot of mental problems sprinkled on top. btw i'm so glad they killed off Grace, she creeped me out  I don't trust anyone that emotionally stoic.

I'm really liking season 6 so far, each episode is hitting all the feels. Degrassi (well probably every teen drama show) needs to take notes from Skins, I love how Grace's death has been so effectively used in each episode and is basically the fuel for the entire season. In most shows they wrap up character deaths in a couple episodes.
